A modern typeface for rural Ireland.

For my final year degree project in 2022, I wanted to use design to enhance my home village of Kilworth, Co. Cork. My primary method for achieving this was to design a versatile typeface with many potential applications, such as on wayfinding signage, in printed matter, and on event posters. I created a series of posters to be used as plaques along a planned heritage trail highlighting famous or notable historical figures from the village under the label “Folk Lore”, implementing bold woodcut illustrations to highlight the unique characteristics of each figure.

Parish Sans is a display typeface that blends the organic letterforms of traditional Gaelic script with slick Swiss modernism. This typeface is a tool for highlighting local stories and people in rural Ireland while embracing contemporary aesthetics.
